Stop Wasting Time on Ineffective Training — Here’s Why Video Works

Updated: Oct 18

Would you leave your job due to a lack of training and onboarding? Seems risky!

Crazy statistic I found in some research:

40% of employees are leaving within their first year due to poor training and onboarding. Really?

I'm a solutions guy and a video producer, so... consider this!

📌 Onboarding Videos for New Hires

Set the tone from day one. Onboarding videos introduce new employees to your company’s culture, tools, policies, and values—all in a consistent, scalable format.

Here's a few approaches and types.

1. Day-in-the-Life Mini-Docs

Show new hires what their role looks like in action—real tasks, real people, real pace. It builds confidence and sets expectations.

2. Culture Shorts with Real Employees

Feature team members sharing stories, values, and quirks. Authentic voices beat scripted HR intros every time.

3. Interactive Video Modules

Let viewers choose their path—click to explore departments, dive into tools, or meet leadership. It’s onboarding like a "Choose your own adventure" book (Remember those!)

4. “Unboxing” the Company

Treat the first week like an unboxing experience: reveal tools, perks, platforms, and workflows with excitement and clarity.

5. Founder or Leadership Welcome Message

A direct, personal video from leadership can humanize the company and reinforce mission alignment.

6. Animated Explainers for Complex Topics

Use motion graphics to simplify policies, benefits, or compliance—especially helpful for remote or global teams.

7. Microlearning Series (This one is popular with Gen Z y'all!)

Break onboarding into short, bingeable episodes—each 2–3 minutes long, focused on one key concept or tool.

I'd love to be challenged with making one of these in a creative way that people actually enjoy and find useful. It's possible!
